BUSY WEEKEND FOR COMPANY 14
CREWS
July 18th-20th-
An unusually busy weekend for Shade Gap crews brought a total of
5 calls for Company 14, mixed in with the calls were some QRS
assist calls, and our Haz-Mat Operations Refresher training. The
first call came in at 15:05 hours on the 18th, sending both
ET-14 and ER-14 to the Borough of Shirleysburg, assisting
Company 9 (Orbisonia-Rockhill) on a dwelling fire. The crews
arrived and was sent inside to assist with operations and
overhaul. Both units cleared the scene at 17:29 hours. The
19th brought three more calls, the first was at 02:47 hours for
an MVA, vehicle into a tree, at the intersection of Neelyton
Road and Mountain Foot Road in Dublin Township. Chief 14 arrived
to find a single vehicle into a tree with nobody around. Crews
searched the area for any patients but found none. Chief 14
placed units in service at 04:40 hours. At 18:06 hours, Shade
Gap was again on the run, this time to Gill Lane, in Dublin
Township, for a vehicle fire. Chief 14 arrived and found a fully
involved van, ET-14 arrived and the crew made quick work of the
fire, and returned at 19:15 hours. The final call for the day
came in at 23:29 hours, sending units to the intersection of
Shade Valley Road and Mt. Zion Road, for an MVA reported as a
vehicle versus a cow. 2nd Assistant Chief 14 arrived and
confirmed dispatch, with walking wounded from the vehicle. Crews
arrived and set up traffic control and assisted the ambulance
with refusals. The final fire call for the weekend came in at
03:03 on the 20th, this time to the familiar address of the
intersection of Neelyton Road and Croghan Pike, for an MVA
reported with possible confinement. Upon arrival the crews found
a single vehicle off the roadway with the driver out of a
vehicle and sitting on the front porch of a nearby home. Crews
set up traffic control while the ambulance crew from 900 checked
the driver for injuries. Chief 14 placed units in service at
05:05 hours.

COMPANY 14 RUNS TWO FIRES
ON THE DAY
July 12th-
Today the volunteers from Shade Gap responded on two fires, one
in the first due, the other as a mutual aid call. The first fire
was dispatched at 10:49 hours, sending units to the Neelyton
Road in Dublin Township, for an outside fire. Chief 14 arrived
and found a small trash fire that got away and extended into a
storage trailer. The crew from ET-14 pulled a trash line and
knocked the fire down, after the power was shut off, crews
entered the trailer and found some smoke damage inside with no
sign of fire extension into the trailer. Chief 14 placed the box
in service at 11:26 hours. The second call was dispatched at
15:10 hours for a transfer to Franklin County Company 12
(Fannett-Metal) while they were on the scene of a brush fire.
While in route ER-14 was told that they were now being called to
the scene on Back Road to assist. The crew arrived and helped
extinguish the fire and then helped rake the hay bales around to
hit all the remaining hot spots. ER-14 returned to service at
16:28 hours.
MVA ON THE NEELYTON
MOUNTAIN
June 29th-
Units from Company 14 were dispatched at 07:41 hours to Dublin
Township, on the Neelyton Road, for an MVA on the mountain.
Crews arrived under the command of Chief 14 to find a single
vehicle off the roadway with the occupants self extricated.
Crews set up traffic control and obtained refusals from the
occupants. Company 14 returned to service at 09:59 hours.

ET-14 ON MOUNT UNION HOUSE
FIRE
June 27th-
At 20:10 hours, Engine-Tanker 14 was dispatched to assist
Company 7 (Mount Union) for a dwelling fire. Crews from Co. 7
arrived with a fully involved dwelling, ET-14 arrived and dumped
its water and then joined the tanker shuttle hauling 7 loads of
water to the scene. Extra manpower from the crew were sent to
the scene to assist with exterior operations. After a long
fight, the fire was brought under control and Command 7 released
ET-14. The crew from Shade Gap returned to service at 02:40

MVA WITH ONE OVERTURNED
June 6th-
Huntingdon County dispatched Company 14 units at 17:10 hours to
the intersection of Croghan Pike and Shade Valley Road in Dublin
Township, for an MVA with rollover. Chief 14 arrived finding a
two vehicle MVA with one on its roof in a ditch and three
patients. Shade Gap units arrived and set up traffic control and
started treating the injured. All three people involved were
transported to hospitals by ambulances from Company 900 (Orbisonia-Rockhill)
Franklin County 12 (Fannett-Metal), and Fulton County 57 (Hustontown).
Crews from Shade Gap remained on scene to assist PSP until being
released by Chief 14 at 18:51 hours.


ENGINE-TANKER ON
MADDENSVILLE BAR FIRE
June 6th-
At 06:09 Engine-Tanker 14 was alerted to assist Company 12
(Three Springs) on a building fire on Maddensville Pike, in
Springfield Township. Units arrived to find a working fire in a
bar and went to work. Engine-Tanker 14 was placed in service
before arrival because of the quick knockdown by the initial
crews. Then at 10:11 hours, units were dispatched back to the
same location for a rekindle. This time ET-14 was able to make
it to the scene and the crew was sent inside to help pulling
ceilings and walls to make sure that all hot spots were taken of
before putting a foam blanket on the affected areas. ET-14
returned to service at 11:28 hours.
MVA WITH WIRES DOWN
May 30th-
At 03:20 hours, Huntingdon County dispatched Company 14 to
Decorum Road in Dublin Township, for a non injury MVA with wires
down. Deputy Chief 14 arrived and confirmed dispatch find a
single vehicle off the roadway, with a pole broken off and wires
hanging low, but off the ground, with the lone occupant self
extricated and PSP already on scene. The crew from SU-14
obtained a refusal from the driver and crews remained on scene
until the arrival of Valley Rural Elelctric to replace the
broken pole. Company 14 returned to service at 05:00 hours.
SU-14 ON MVA WITH
ENTRAPMENT
May 24th-
Special Unit 14 was dispatched at 16:27 hours to assist Company
9 (Orbisonia-Rockhill) with a 2 vehicle MVA reported with
entrapment. Units from 9 arrived and confirmed dispatch and
Chief 9 requested air medical be dispatched. SU-14 arrived and
put the Amkus system in service using a short ram to help push
the dash to free the drivers legs. After the patient was
extricated from the vehicle, he was transported to the landing
zone and flown to a nearby trauma center. SU-14 returned to
service at 17:55 hours.
CONGRATULATIONS DAVEY
May 23rd-
Congratulations to Deputy Chief Davey McMullen, who graduated as
a member of the 39th HACC Career Fire Academy. He graduated with
13 other firefighters from career fire departments from all over
the state including Altoona, Harrisburg, Scranton, Williamsport,
Manchester Township, and Washington. Two other career
firefighters from the Chambersburg Fire Department graduated as
well, Ben Myers from Pleasant Hall, and Marshall Warden, from
Fannett-Metal. The class endured an intense 8 week program that
covered topics from firefighting, vehicle rescue, hazardous
materials, and some had an additional 4 weeks of EMT training
for those who didn't already have it. Davey was also the
recipient of the Physical Fitness Award for the most improved
cadet during the academy. Davey, Ben, and Marshall now return to
their respective shifts at the Chambersburg Fire Department in
Franklin County where they can put their training to work.
Congratulations to all the members of the 39th Fire Academy.

MVA IN THE FIRST DUE
May 18th-
Company 14 was dispatched at 13:08 hours to Tannery Road in
Dublin Township, for an MVA reported minor with no injuries.
Crews arrived and found a 2 vehicle MVA with all people self
extricated. Special Unit 14 obtained patient refusals from
everyone involved. Company 14 returned to service at 14:55
hours.
ENGINE-TANKER 14 ON MOUNT
UNION HOUSE FIRE
April 26th-
Huntingdon County dispatched the 7-12 at 13:33 hours to Spring
Ave. in Shirley Township, bringing Engine-Tanker 14 on the
initial alarm to assist. Crews from first due Company 7 (Mount
Union) arrived finding a working fire. ET-14 arrived and sent
manpower to the scene to help in overhaul operations while Chief
14 assisted with the accountability area. The crew from Shade
Gap returned to service at 16:54 hours, Fannett-Metal Engine
12-2 transferred to Company 14 while ET-14 was on the call.
TRACTOR TRAILER FIRE
April 25th-
At 03:17 hours, Huntingdon County dispatched Company 14 to the
area of Main Street and Route 522 for a tractor trailer fire.
Chief 14 arrived and found a working tractor fire that was
connected to a car carrier trailer, that was also threatening
some construction vehicles that were parked nearby. Chief 14
then requested a tanker from Company 9 (Orbisonia-Rockhill) to
assist. ET-14 arrived and went to work knocking down the fire,
the quick knock allowed Tanker 9 to be placed in service by
command. Crews from ER-14 and ET-14 hit remaining hot spots and
returned to service at 05:18 hours.
