History of the Shade Gap Area Volunteer Fire Company
In January 1965 at the Shade Gap Lions
Club regular meeting, Lion Richard Jaymes was appointed to serve
as chairman for the purpose of calling a public meeting to see
if a fire company could be organized.
On February 8th, 1965, a
public meeting was held with an attendance of 75 area residents.
At this meeting a committee of 15 people was appointed to make a
study of the procedures and other duties of the fire company,
and bring them to the next meeting that was to be held March 8th,
1965.
During the March meeting it
was determined that the fire company would serve Dublin Township
, Tell Township , and Shade Gap Borough. An organization meeting
was held with with the election of Richard Jaymes as President,
Issac Frehn as Vice-President, Edward Walters as Financial
Secretary, Donald Hess as Secretary, and Dale Goshorn as
Treasurer. The Incorporators selected were, James Ford, Robert
Gray, Ted Illingsworth, John Murray, and David “Bub”
McMullen. The Directors for the Charter were, Issac Frehn, Galen
Kling, Marlin Kauffman, Dean Berrier, and Richard Price. Our
first fire officers elected were, Fire Chief Harry Stuart, First
Assistant Chief James Ford, and Second Assistant Chief Issac
Frehn.
Mr. Morris Terrizzi, Solicitor for the Charter of the Shade Gap
Area Fire Company, filed legal notices in the daily newspapers
on March 26th, 1965, and the charter was approved by
Judge Swirles Himes on April 6th, 1965.
