2001

In January, the company took delivery of a 2001 Pierce Ford F-550 mini pumper with a 300 gallon water tank and a 500 gallon per minute pump. The unit had a cost of $210,000 and replaced our 1976 Dodge

2003

On January 20th, members mourned the loss of Keith Hess, a career firefighter with our neighboring company Fannett-Metal. Keith was killed in the line of duty while working at a house fire in Blairs Mills, a call Company 14 was also on. He was killed when a building collapse occurred bringing the second floor of the home down on top him and two other firefighters on the first floor, trapping them. The other two firefighters received minor injuries, but Keith was pronounced dead at the Chambersburg Hospital. Members from Company 14 joined hundreds of other firefighters in paying our respects to Keith. To those that had the pleasure of knowing him, he will never be forgotten, in fact, all company helmets carry a memorial sticker on them in his honor

In April the company took a leap into the future with the purchase of an MSA Evolution 5000 Thermal Imaging Camera. The camera uses heat from objects to make an image to allow firefighters to literally see through smoke to help locate trapped people in a smoke filled room and to help firefighters find the fire. Shade Gap was one of the first companies in the area to have one and since placing it in service the camera has proved to be well worth every penny spent on it

2004

The company received a grant from FEMA for new firefighting gear and new SCBA's

2005

In January the company took delivery of  20 complete sets of new firefighter gear, including, coats, pants gloves, boots, and helmets as part of the FEMA Grant

In March we received 12 new MSA Firehawk MMR SCBA's. The new packs feature a heads-up display that shows how much air is left in our cylinders, plus an integrated PASS alarm that has a computer built in that will also calculate how many minutes are left in the cylinder based on the way a firefighter is breathing after the first three minutes, and then updates every 30 seconds after that. They also have an integrated escape belt into the waist belt that contains a 50 foot escape line, a carabineer and a lowering device that a firefighter can use to evacuate a building in case of an emergency

In April we purchased some 5 inch supply hose from the Pleasant Hall Fire Company in Franklin County

2006

The fire company was able to purchase through a grant, a second Amkus Rescue System including a new power unit, a short ram, and a new "Speedway Cutter" the new unit was placed in service along with our other Amkus system, giving us two hydraulic rescue systems in the company

We also took delivery of a second thermal imaging camera, a MSA Evolution 5200 HD. The new camera is almost identical to our other camera except this one has a clearer picture and has a 2 power zoom feature to magnify an area

The fire company also purchased through grant money, tool boxes for the apparatus, two new chain saws, two back-pack leaf blowers, and a port-a-power unit that is used in vehicle extrication.
