1965
During
our first year we had a paid membership of 184 people
The company purchased a GMC High Pressure pumper from the Blue
Ridge Summit Fire Company of Franklin County at a cost of $3,000
The company received a 900 gallon water tanker from the
Pennsylvania Forest Waters Department on lease at no charge,
except to be serviced and housed.
Our first house siren was donated to us by the Newton-Wayne Fire
Company in Mifflin County
Company 14 joined to Huntingdon County Fireman's Association
The company purchased the Shade Gap Picnic Ground (Harper's
Memorial Park) along with the buildings from Mr. Alvin Blackman
and his wife, the area consists of 52 acres of ground and is
located along Routes 522 and 641 near Shade Gap
1966
A Fire House Committee was appointed, with Charles H. Williams
as the chairman. This committee was to check on a location,
material, design, and size of the firehouse that was needed to
house the growing company.
The company formed a Fire Police with Eugene Clippinger
appointed as Fire Police Chief
In May, the members broke ground for the new firehouse, a 40 by
60 foot single story building located at the entrance to
Harper's Memorial Park on Route 641, this remains as the current
home of Company14
The 86th Annual Shade Gap Picnic was held, the first under the
management of the fire company
The picnic woods were used by the Pennsylvania State Police and
the FBI for their headquarters during the kidnapping of Peggy Ann
Bradnick and the search for the "Mountain Man"
1967
In January, the firehouse was occupied by fire equipment for the
first time, and an open house was held for the public
1968
The company purchased a 1955 John Bean Ford pumper from the
Shawnee Valley Volunteer Fire Company in Bedford County for
$6,000
1969
The fire company hosted the 23rd Annual
Huntingdon County Fireman's Association Convention.
